The convention for 2012 just ended, and if all the positive remarks are any indication, I’d say it was very successful. Just as an example, here is a copy of an email sent to me just yesterday:

“John, I wanted to say thanks for, first, doing a great job with the convention and, second, for helping push me over the edge in terms of deciding I needed to come and see what I could find in the original art category. I busted my art budget for the near term, but had a blast doing it. You guys did a terrific job, and I’ll be there next year.

Best regards”

We set a new attendance record. We had a private screening of JOHN CARTER at the local AMC next door for all those who were able to make it there Thursday Night. We had several great auctions. A couple of great panel discussions, another great program book [Thanks to Tom Roberts at Black Dog Books], and apparently a smash hit in the art room display!

Doug and I would like to thank all those who attended, the dealers who set up and especially all of our volunteers who help make the convention run as smoothly as possible!

We’re pleased to announce that in connection with our theme this year — celebrating 100 years of John Carter and Tarzan — JOHN CARTER will be coming to the Windy City Pulp and Paper Convention this year! We’ve booked a screen at the AMC Yorktown 17 theater (which is only a couple of hundred feet away from the con hotel), to show JOHN CARTER exclusively for con goers the evening of Thursday, April 26, at around 10:00 pm. We’re still working out some of the logistics with the theater, but we should be giving out free passes to con goers in the con suite that evening, beginning around 7:00 pm, along with the pre-registration packets. To get a pass, you’ll need to be pre-registered (since like always, we won’t be set up to take new registrations that evening). Passes will be given out on a first come, first served basis, but we’ve booked a large enough theater that, barring an incredible increase in our usual attendance on Thursday evening, there should be plenty of passes for everyone who wants to attend. It should be great to see the film with an audience full of pulp fans and we’ll hope to see you there! It’s a great film — Deb & Doug are about to go see it for the fourth time this weekend.

Also, one last reminder — in order to get the convention rate (which is highly discounted from the regular rate) for hotel rooms at our con hotel, the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center, you need to book your rooms by 5:00 pm central time on April 5, 2010.

See you there!
