My apologies to those of you who receive this multiple times; I’m sending it to a few of my different email catalog groups.
With the Windy City Pulp and Paper Convention now just over two weeks away (September 10-12, 2021), we thought we’d send an update. We’re very excited to be back; our last show was in April 2019, so it will be nearly two and a half years between shows, which is much too long!
As has been the case since our show in 2008, this year’s convention will be held at the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center, Lombard, Illinois.
Our pre-registration figures are in line with those in previous years, and all 180 tables in our dealer room are sold out.
Obviously, in the new reality we’re currently living with, we’re tracking what restrictions or changes might be required at our convention. Currently, Illinois (and the CDC and our hotel) are recommending that folks at conventions like ours wear a mask (and if you’re unvaccinated, masks are required by Illinois). We encourage all attendees, whether or not vaccinated, to wear a mask. At this time, we expect that the current requirements will be the ones in place at the time of our show.
For those attendees from out of state, we’ll mention that Lombard is over 20 miles from Chicago – it’s not even in the same county. Chicago tends to be in the news more than the rest of Illinois, given its size, but any mandates imposed by Chicago are not relevant to Lombard.
Based on data from the Mayo Clinic, Illinois remains the most vaccinated state in the Midwest, with 97.9% of its 65+ population having at least 1 dose (80.5% fully vaccinated), and 72.3% of its 18-64 population having at least 1 dose (55.7% fully vaccinated).
According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, DuPage County (which is where our convention will be held) is the most vaccinated county in Illinois, at 62.57% (68.09% of 18-64, 91.1% of 65+ fully vaccinated).
Our one programming change this year is that we will not be hosting a Con Suite. Instead, pre-registered attendees can pick up their badges and program packets (including our program book, Windy City Pulp Stories) at the registration tables outside the dealer room.
Our Friday evening auction will feature more rare material from the Estate of Robert Weinberg. Our Saturday evening auction will contain material from several consignors, including many rare items from the Estate of Glenn Lord as well as few scarce items from the Estate of August Derleth. Our website, www.windycitypulpandpaper.com, has the complete auction list and images of each item. Details on absentee bidding are posted there as well; we’re sorry, but we don’t have the ability to make it a “live” bidding option.
To register for hotel rooms, you can use this link that the hotel has set up for our show:
In order to get the convention rate, you must book by 5:00 pm Central on September 5, 2021.

Stay safe and we look forward to seeing all our old friends, and making some new ones, in a few weeks!
