101. ERRATA SHEET FOR “THE SHADOW OVER INNSMOUTH” BY H.P. LOVECRAFT – “The Shadow Over Innsmouth” was published by Visionary Publishing Co. in 1936.  This errata sheet was issued shortly after publication, and contains handwritten corrections by HPL.  Bob acquired this from Derleth’s estate.  I don’t know if Derleth got this from Barlow, but based on the other material in Bob’s collection that this was stored with, I believe it was part of the Barlow estate material that Bob acquired from Derleth’s estate. WEINBAUM – rare Australian anthology published by The Whitman Press in 1950 as part of their Fantasy Fiction series.  The title story originally appeared in Astounding, 2/35.  It also includes “Life-Line” by Heinlein, which originally appeared in Astounding, 8/39. 113. “THE PRINCESS OF THE ATOM” BY RAY CUMMINGS – this is the first hardcover edition, published by T.V. Boardman & Company, Ltd. in 1951.  It was preceded by a paperback edition published by Avon in 1950; the story originally was serialized in Argosy All-Story Weekly in 1929.  Stamped on the front free endpaper is “FILE COPY”, under which is written in pen “3rd September 1951.” CURRENT BID –

114. FREDERICK FAUST & DOROTHY FAUST SIGNED CHECKS – this is a lot of four checks (and one voided check) that were issued by The Frank A. Munsey Company pulp chain as payment for two stories by Frederick Faust, which appeared under his Max Brand pseudonym.  Check dated July 11, 1917 payable to Frederick Faust is for $170 for the novelette, “The Sole Survivor” (All-Story Weekly, 9/15/17), and endorsed by him on the back.  There are also three checks from September 1917 (totaling $800) payable to Dorothy Faust for the serial, “Who Am I?” by Max Brand (All-Story Weekly beginning 2/23/18) and endorsed by her on the back.  The lot also includes a voided version of one of these as well. 115. JOHNSTON MCCULLEY SIGNED CHECK – this was issued by The Frank A. Munsey Company pulp chain on December 6, 1917, in the amount of $375, as payment for “The Brute-Breaker” (All-Story Weekly, 8/10/18).  Endorsed by McCulley on the back.  The story was filmed by Universal in 1919; based on reports at the time, McCulley was very complimentary of the adaptation. 116 FARNSWORTH WRIGHT – LETTER TO ARTIST JAMES NAPOLI DATED JUNE 18, 1935 – letter from Wright to Napoli asking Napoli to do illustrations for four stories to appear in the September 1935 issue of Weird Tales [see Lot 117] – “The Shambler From the Stars” by Bloch, “Vulthoom” by CAS, “The Man Who Chained the Lightning” by Ernst and “The Blue Woman” by John Scott Douglas.  Wright discusses what the Brundage cover for “The Blue Woman” will look like.  He also discusses a previous illo that Napoli had drawn for Ernst’s “Doctor Satan”. MANUSCRIPT FOR “THE SHERIFF OF CANYON GULCH” BY POUL ANDERSON & GORDON DICKSON – This is the original manuscript by Anderson and Dickson for their story, “The Sheriff of Canyon Gulch” (original title, “Heroes Are Made”) which appeared in the 5/51 issue of Other Worlds.  This is one of the Hoka stories.  The cover page notes in pencil that it was “pd 5-29-50”.  Other Worlds stamp on the pages, and some corrections in pencil appear throughout. 126. “MONSTER AT LARGE” BY BY VOL MOLESWORTH and “PRELUDE FOR DEATH” BY VOL MOLESWORTH – two very rare Australian books published in 1943 and 1944 by the Currawong Publishing Co. as part of their Currawong Novels series.  These seem to both be from the same series; one is subtitled “The Wizard Strikes!” and the other “Ape & Wizard!” (inside, it states that it’s “An Adventure of The Wizard”).  According to The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction, “Monster at Large” is a retelling of the Frankenstein story in an Australian setting!
