151. H.P. LOVECRAFT SIGNED POSTCARD TO ALFRED GALPIN, JR. – postmarked November 21, 1922.  As was customary with his correspondence with his friend Galpin, HPL referred to himself as “grandpa” and signed himself with made up names, often Theobaldus.  HPL’s “Polaris” first appeared in the December 1920 issue of Galpin’s amateur press periodical, “The Philosopher.”  A few months prior to the date of this postcard, during late July or early August 1922, Galpin introduced HPL to the fiction of Clark Ashton Smith, giving him a copy of Smith’s “The Star-Treader and Other Poems.”  In the 1930’s, Galpin attended the Sorbonne in Paris and became a classical music composer.  In 1937, following HPL’s passing, Galpin wrote a piano solo, “Lament for H.P.L.”, the score of which was included in Arkham House’s HPL book, “Marginalia.”  According to “An H.P. Lovecraft Encyclopedia” by S. T. Joshi and David E. Schultz, most of HPL’s correspondence to Galpin has either been lost or destroyed. CURRENT BID –

152. H.P. LOVECRAFT – ENVELOPE ADDRESSED TO HPL – this envelope is postmarked 1934 from Kilburn, which is outside London.  In HPL’s hand is written “Please return to H.P. Lovecraft” with his address, as well as “Photographs of Drawings by Howard Wandrei.”  Sadly, the photos aren’t present, but on the back are some penciled notes which appear to be about pricing various sizes of photos.  Based on the other materials this was with in Bob’s collection, I believe that Bob acquired this from the Derleth estate and that Derleth acquired it from Robert Barlow’s estate. CURRENT BID –

153. “ETYMOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS OF THE CTHULHU MYTHOS” BY FRED L. PELTON – this is an 11 page manuscript, with one page cover sheet (signed by Pelton), on the Cthulhu Mythos, written in 1945 but never published.  In a letter dated 7/18/71, Fred’s son, John, told Edward P. Berglund that he believed this manuscript to no longer be extant.  Based on the other materials this was with in Bob’s collection, I believe that Bob acquired this from the Derleth estate and that Derleth acquired it from Robert Barlow’s estate.
